Karaoke Joe's Starmaker Roadshow

"A Living Legend In His Own Bathroom"

Celebrating 21 Years of Hosting Karaoke Shows in the North East

Eric White (known locally as Karaoke Joe) started his entertainment career at the age of 14 in 1960 with "The Blue Caps", A Top Northern Rhythm Group and played at all the major local dancehalls, nightclubs and theatres that were popular in Heartbeat Country back in the late fifties and sixties.

The band supported and toured with Brenda Lee, Rod Stewart, Alan Price, Frankie Vaughan, Vince Hill, Elton John, Long John Baldry, Chris Farlow, Billy J Kramer, Emile Ford, The Animals and Paul Daniels just to name a few.

Eight years later he switched his hand to comedy and toured professionally throughout Europe in the ‘70s as a successful comedy entertainer with the Bennett Brothers. In 1980 he successfully switched to the country circuit after winning The Players King Size Award at The Prestatyn Country Festival where he supported Boxcar Willie. His success was repeated a year later by winning again at The Hemsby Country Festival.

For seven years in the 80s and 90s, Eric had his own one man show at the Sea View Lounge in North Bay, Scarborough and compered the Sunday Evening Country Shows at the Royal Opera House, entertaining tourists from all over the world.

In October 1988, Eric and his wife Barbara introduced karaoke to the North East with the Carling Black Label Bass Roadshows. Within months the craze spread rapidly throughout the region and the whole country. Pubs like The Talbot and Courtyard in Stockton, The Yorkshire Lass in New Marske, the Boosbeck in Boosbeck were the first to host regular weekly shows. Eric says when he first started there was only one mobile karaoke in Billingham, Stockton and Hartlepool, then everyone followed suit.

Over the lasts 21 years he has ran over 7000+ successful karaoke nights for pubs, clubs, major breweries, bingo halls, supermarkets, for the Armed Forces at Catterick and top NATO base at RAF Leeming who, as you know, demand high standards – and good quality entertainment.

Since October 2007 to February 2009 Eric has mixed his karaoke shows with performing live again on the North East Club Circuit and at CIU Holiday Centre, Saltburn, entertaining hundreds of CIU members from all over the country. Eric has already been invited back for the next festive season's "Turkey and Tinsel Breaks" and this summer's "All Inclusive Breaks".
